Connex Education in Warrington is delighted to announce that recruitment consultant Luke Achilles is embarking on an expedition to Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar. Luke, a keen mountaineer is doing the activity in aid of PAPYRUS, a national charity committed to the prevention of young suicide.

Luke is raising money and awareness of PAPYRUS during his 17-day expedition in April. He expects it will present a massive challenge for him as the trek will be carried out over 13 consecutive days, reaching an altitude of 5545m, followed by a climb of just under 20,000 feet to the summit of Kala Patthar.

Taking part in this adventure in support of PAPYRUS is not just a physical achievement for Luke but also personal due to his own journey with mental health. He wrote an emotional blog for the charity in which he describes the struggles he has faced with mental health and how mountaineering has helped him.

Speaking about the adventure, he said, “I’m using this challenge as a way to help fund the work that PAPYRUS does; to help support others who, unfortunately, may not have anyone they can get support from”.

PAPYRUS provides HOPELineUK, a confidential helpline offering advice and support to young people who may be struggling with thoughts of suicide or for those who are concerned about the wellbeing of someone they know. The charity also delivers training programmes to the community which provides local councils, schools and healthcare professionals with skills to help prevent suicide.

So far Luke has raised an amazing £570 and has a target of £1000, to support this amazing cause and help Luke’s expedition click here.
